At St. Wulstan’s we want to help our children to respond to Pope Francis’ call to holiness. As such, the Saints play an important role in motivating our pupils. They inspire us to lead joyful lives; they serve as role models; they teach us that holiness means being who you are; and they pray for us from heaven, giving us the strength to be who God created us to be.
 
At St. Wulstan’s, every class has a Class Saint to help guide them in their school life.  We want to celebrate the lives of the Saints and take guidance from how they lived their lives to make Christ known to all.
 
At the start of each year, the children learn more deeply about their Saint. They ask these Saints for their intercessions during our collective worship and remember them in their class prayers throughout the year. 
 

Our Junior Leadership Team recently had a remarkable opportunity to represent St. Wulstan's RC Primary School at a special event at St. Mary's Church in Burnley.

They were privileged to visit the relics of St. Carlo Acutis, joining other schools from the Diocese of Salford in this profound experience. This opportunity not only allowed our pupils to engage with an important spiritual moment but also demonstrated the leadership and maturity of our Junior Leadership Team. Such experiences are invaluable in developing our pupils' understanding of faith, community, and their role as young representatives of our school. St. Carlo Acutis, known for his deep faith and technological insights, serves as an inspiring figure for our young people. His life reminds us of the importance of living our faith actively and using our talents to serve others. Our pupils' participation in this event reflects the core values of St. Wulstan's RC Primary School - nurturing faith, encouraging leadership, and providing opportunities for meaningful experiences beyond the classroom. We are immensely proud of our Junior Leadership Team and the way they represented our school with such dignity and respect.

Year 5/6 - St. Carlo Acutis
Feast Day: 7th September

St. Carlo Acutis is a young, recently canonized Catholic saint who is an inspirational model for children and young people because he loved video games, computers, and soccer while also living a life of deep faith and love for Jesus. His story teaches that holiness is possible in ordinary life, even with modern interests, making him relatable to the "iPad generation" and inspiring them to live out their faith. 
Year 4/5: St. Bernadette
Feast Day: 16th April
St. Bernadette was a poor, uneducated, and sickly French peasant girl who experienced a series of visions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Grotto of Lourdes. Her story emphasizes themes of courage, humility, and deep faith in God, even when she and her family faced poverty and disbelief. Bernadette's story shows how God can use even the simplest people to deliver important messages and lead to miracles, making her a patron saint for children who can learn from her example of living with faith and hope despite challenges. 
 
Year 3/4: St. Anastasia
Feast Day: 25th December
 
St. Anastasia, also known as Anastasia of Sirmium, ministered to Christians suffering persecution. After the death of her husband, St. Anastasia distributed her property to those less fortunate and those suffering. Widowed at a young age, she never remarried but instead dedicated her life to serving the poor and the imprisoned. Because of this, St. Anastasia is known as a healer and the “deliverer of potions.” She is also the patron saint of weavers, widows and martyrs.
Year 1/2: St. Therese
Feast Day: 1st October

Saint Therese’s feast day is October 1, but her message reaches all people at all times.  God wants to meet us wherever we are and He is accessible to all who seek Him.  The little way is a way of forgiveness, confidence, trust, and love.  It is selfless and simple.  St. Therese of Lisieux is a great saint who arrived at holiness by a simple path we all can follow.  She is with us and will help us.
St. Thérèse of Lisieux, also called "The Little Flower," is known for her "Little Way," which teaches children how to love God and others through small, everyday actions. You can teach children about her by focusing on the idea of doing ordinary things with great love, like performing a small act of kindness or making a personal sacrifice
Reception/Year 1: St. Peter
Feast Day: 29th June
St. Peter is one of the great Apostles who is joint patron saint of the city of Rome and is considered a cornerstone of the Church.
St Peter was one of the twelve Apostles as well as the first Pope and the founder of the Roman Church.
